Daft Punk fans received an unexpected treat over the weekend when Thomas Bangalter made a surprise appearance during Rampa’s highly anticipated Art Basel performance in Basel, Switzerland.

The former Daft Punk member stepped behind the decks Sunday night (June 21) as the previously unannounced guest for Warehouse Artefacts, an immersive art and music experience curated alongside Rampa and visual artist Julian Charrière. Held during Art Basel, the phone-free event blended contemporary art, underground culture, and dance music inside Messe Basel, attracting both electronic music enthusiasts and art world attendees.

While organizers had teased a ‘special guest’ in advance, Bangalter’s involvement remained tightly under wraps until the event unfolded. The lucky attendees were gifted with Daft Punk classics like‘Giorgio by Moroder,’ ‘One More Time,’ ‘Something About Us,’ and ‘Rollin’ and Scratchin’’, as well as tracks from Giorgio Moroder, Chic, Donna Summer, Chuck Roberts and Sufjan Stevens. The set was a rare and intimate appearance from the legendary producer, whose public DJ performances have remained scarce since Daft Punk officially split in 2021.

The appearance marks yet another notable chapter in Bangalter’s gradual return to live electronic music. Over the past year, he has stepped back into the spotlight through a series of carefully selected performances and artistic collaborations, including recent DJ appearances in London and New York.

Although footage from the performance is limited due to restrictions on phone usage inside the event, clips and reactions circulating online have already sparked excitement among fans eager to witness one of electronic music’s most influential figures back behind the decks.
